Alyena Munzar is a Vancouver Island-based artist working in oil painting. She explores portraiture and the human figure, often set in nature, capturing emotion, facial expression, and connection to the world around them. Her work delves into narratives around quietude, femininity, and how the figure responds to and becomes part of the environment. The Pre-Raphaelite movement is one of many that have inspired her love of historical themes, and her painting style lies within the realm of representational art while allowing for expressive brushwork and softened detail. She achieves this through dynamic figure positioning, clothing choices that are often historically inspired, and the use of local landscapes. Alyena particularly enjoys painting the curves, bends, and soft lines found in nature and the human figure to create a sense of harmony and flow.
